5th year registrar position - Sunshine Coast, QLD

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service

A new 5th year registrar position has been established on the Sunshine Coast. This post will a provide comprehensive Ophthalmology clinical experience with high surgical volume. It will feature significant subspecialty exposure in the areas of oculoplastics, paediatrics and medical retinal.

Currently Ophthalmology on the Sunshine Coast is divided between the Caloundra hospital and the new Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH). We have a large and well equipped outpatient clinic at Caloundra Hospital. Caloundra also has a day surgery facility for higher volume cases such as cataract and smaller oculoplastic cases. We also operate at SCUH on more complex cases and patients not suited to a day surgery unit.

We have 6 part time VMO’s and are hoping to secure a seventh VR surgeon early next year. We have 3 PHO’s and an excellent team of orthoptists, nurses and an optometrist. Our OCT’s fundus cameras and IOL master are all networked through Forum (Zeiss equipment) and Navis (Nidek) to the consulting rooms. See attached list.

With this post we are offering a very attractive position for a suitable 5th year trainee. We have a large surgical wait list and there will be plenty of opportunity for extra theatre sessions to help reduce the long wait surgical load. Click here for a proposed timetable.
