JOB TITLE: Corneal and Laser Refractive Surgeon at The Wellington Eye Centre, New Zealand

The Wellington Eye Centre is one of New Zealand’s leading laser eye clinics, with Dr Andrew Logan being at the forefront of innovative laser eye surgery for the past 30 years. We are seeking an ambitious and skilled corneal and Laser Refractive Surgeon to join our very busy and reputable laser surgery practice. As a key member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in providing exceptional patient care, advancing our surgical techniques, and contributing to the continued growth and success of our practice.

  1. Perform comprehensive pre-operative evaluations and assessments to determine patient candidacy for corneal and laser refractive surgeries, including but not limited to LASIK, PRK, LASEK, SMILE, corneal transplants, and other advanced corneal procedures.

  2. Conduct surgical procedures with precision and proficiency, demonstrating expertise in corneal surgeries such as lamellar keratoplasty (DALK, DSEK, SMEK) keratoprosthesis implantation and corneal cross-linking.

  3. Provide postoperative care and management for corneal surgeries, ensuring optimal patient outcomes and satisfaction.

  4. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement treatment plans tailored to individual patient needs, particularly in cases requiring complex corneal interventions.

  5. Stay abreast of the latest advancements and techniques in corneal surgery through continuous education and training, actively participating in conferences, workshops, and peer-reviewed literature reviews.

  6. Actively participate in practice development initiatives including marketing efforts.

  7. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, surgical procedures and outcomes related to corneal surgery, contributing to in-house clinical research and quality improvement initiatives.

  8. Foster a culture of excellence, professionalism, and patient-centred care within the practice, serving as a mentor and resource for colleagues.


  1. Medical degree from an accredited institution with completion of registrar training in ophthalmology.

  2. Fellowship training in corneal and refractive surgery is highly preferred.

  3. Demonstrated expertise in performing corneal and refractive surgical procedures with a track record of successful outcomes.

  4. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.

  5. Commitment to delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients.

  6. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.

  7. Eligibility for registration as an ophthalmologist in New Zealand.
