Consultant Ophthalmologist – Associate / Partnership Pathway
Dunedin | Queenstown | Invercargill, New Zealand
Available from February 2027
A rare opportunity is available for a Consultant Ophthalmologist to join a busy and growing private ophthalmology practice across the lower South Island of New Zealand.
This is not a locum position. We are seeking an ophthalmologist interested in establishing a substantial private practice, with the opportunity to fast-track toward an associate and partnership pathway.
Our flexible multi-site model operates across Dunedin, Queenstown and Invercargill, providing access to a broad patient base throughout southern New Zealand.
The opportunity
Both part-time and full-time arrangements can be considered.
The successful candidate should:
* Hold FRANZCO or an equivalent specialist qualification
* Be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
* Be comfortable practising general ophthalmology
* Have a strong interest in developing a long-term private practice
Subspecialty expertise is welcomed. Areas of particular interest include:
Paediatric ophthalmology | Glaucoma | Anterior segment | Oculoplastics
Other subspecialty interests are also encouraged.
For candidates wishing to maintain a mixed clinical portfolio, a combination of private and public hospital practice may also be explored.
Why consider this opportunity?
Building a meaningful private ophthalmology practice traditionally takes several years.
Within our established referral network, infrastructure and patient base, the right ophthalmologist may be able to develop a busy private practice within approximately 8–12 weeks.
For someone considering a move to southern New Zealand, returning to New Zealand, or looking for a genuine pathway toward practice ownership, this represents an uncommon opportunity to enter an established platform rather than build from the ground up.
Commencement: From February 2027
Locations:Dunedin, Queenstown and Invercargill
Commitment: Part-time or full-time
Position: Associate ophthalmologist with potential fast-track partnership pathway
Expressions of interest and confidential discussions are welcome.
