Selection & Training

For detailed information, current RANZCO trainees should visit the Learning Management System or login through the website portal above.

The selection process for training commencing in December 2020 (New Zealand) and February 2021 (Australia) has been deferred until September 2020. All applicants who registered for selection in February 2020 were given a full fee refund. Should the selection progress later this year or next, those wishing to continue will need to pay the full fee.

RANZCO expects to resume selection once it is safe to do so and when we receive confirmation from all training networks that there are first year training positions to fill in the 2021 clinical year. We still plan to conduct multiple mini interviews as soon as the travel and indoor gathering restrictions are lifted in Australia and New Zealand. We will endeavour to give at least four weeks’ notice so applicants can make necessary arrangements.

RANZCO has cancelled the semester one RACE OSCE, Optics, Physiology and OBCK examinations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trainees can still do COPEM Module 1 and 2 examinations as the venue and invigilator are arranged by themselves. We are extending the deadline for passing all examinations by at least six months and this deadline may be extended further depending on circumstances. We aim to give as much notice as possible of any further exam cancellations.

After reviewing the examination requirements of trainees and SIMGs, the RANZCO Board and the Qualification and Education Committee have approved the amended examinations timetable proposed by examination boards. The revised timetable applies if we resume training and it is safe to run examinations in October 2020. Trainees who were eligible to sit semester 2, 2020 and semester 1, 2020 examinations, if training time had not been suspended, can still sit examinations. Please refer to the Trainee Progression Policy and Examinations Policy on the RANZCO LMS for eligibility requirements and examination processes.

Trainees who registered for the RACE OSCE in March 2020 will present on 29-30 October in Melbourne. All other eligible trainees and SIMGs will attempt the RACE written examinations on 29-30 September at Cliftons test centres and the RACE OSCE on 26-27 November in Auckland.
