As the front line of the healthcare system, GPs are key referrers of ophthalmic patients. It is therefore important that GPs have access to information and resources that can assist them in identifying potential ophthalmic issues and referring on to the appropriate eye health care professional.
RANZCO seeks to provide support and information to help GPs to identify and refer patients who may need to see an ophthalmologist. This includes GP training workshops offered at RANZCO events, including branch scientific meetings.
RANZCO has also developed referral pathways to assist in the assessment, referral and management of patients with potential glaucoma, AMD and diabetic retinopathy. These pathways are available to download here.
