International Development

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that globally a total of 285 million people are visually impaired, of whom 39 million are blind and 246 million have moderate to severe visual impairment.

Our Development Goal

RANZCO's development goal is to contribute to the reduction in avoidable blindness and vision impairment by taking a leadership role in ensuring high quality ophthalmic education and professional standards for eye care in the Asia-Pacific region.

Good Practice Guidelines for International Development

RANZCO maintains and administers international guidelines at which to stand by. Fellows who volunteer their time to participate in RANZCO projects are expected to adhere to the following good practice guidelines.

RANZCO International Congress Scholarship Program

RANZCO provides an opportunity for ophthalmologists and eye doctors in need to attend the RANZCO Annual Scientific Congress on full scholarship which includes full access to the Congress main events as well an opportunity to participate and present at the pre-Congress International Development Workshop.

This is only one of many educational and scientific exchanges conducted by RANZCO that aims to contribute to the development of high quality ophthalmic education and professional standards for eye care.
