RANZCO Participates in the NATSIEHC 2021: The Gap and Beyond

Indigenous Eye Health (IEH) convened the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Eye Health Conference (NATSIEHC) 2021: The Gap and Beyond on 20-22 April 2021.

Previously known as the ‘Close the Gap for Vision by 2020 National Conference’, the 2021 virtual conference was a key annual gathering of the Indigenous eye health sector.

RANZCO participated in the biennial conference where President Prof Nitin Verma AM addressed a plenary session highlighting RANZCO’s initiatives aimed at Closing the Gap in eye health services for Indigenous populations. You may access his presentation here.

The College and Optometry Australia jointly facilitated a workshop to identify and unpack the immediate issues impacting the uptake of available optometry and ophthalmology services in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health services, seeking to work collaboratively and innovatively to set an action plan in place to address these issues.

RANZCO Fellow A/Prof Kris Rallah-Baker talked at the plenary session ‘And Beyond’ about RANZCO initiatives in building Indigenous workforce, selection, supporting Indigenous trainees throughout their training journey, strengthening outreach portal and cultural safety training, among others.
