RANZCO signs open letter calling for urgent action needed on climate change

RANZCO has joined nine other medical colleges to advocate for urgent transition to net-zero emissions across all economic sectors to address the underlying causes of climate change, and to support those in affected communities.

In the lead up to the Australian Federal Election, we call on all political leaders to commit to ensuring our healthcare system is climate ready and climate friendly.

Building a resilient and sustainable healthcare system is needed to better support our communities. First Nation Peoples have set a good example in understanding the landscape in which we live, using Indigenous knowledge and leadership to inform responses to climate change and avoid further harm on communities still experiencing health inequality.

Climate change is a major risk to our healthcare system. Extreme weather events such as heatwaves, floods, and bushfires, are severely affecting the health and wellbeing of people from all generations.

We must act now.

Read open letter.
